I can work in a group with my friends.
I can work in a group with anyone in my  year level or team

I can respond positively to the needs of others
I can reflect on how well I work with the group and seek feedback on how I can improve
Teamwork

I need help to interact with others.

I need help to participate in a team.
I can interact with others one to one.

I can participate in a team.
I can interact with others in a small group.

I can participate and take responsibility in a team.

I can participate and take responsibility in a team and explain my choices in terms of team outcomes.

Writing

In writing I have been learning to:
  • use all basic punctuation independently
  • attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses)

I have been especially focusing on using parentheses and commas. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.

To be a leader means to be able to motivate a team/person to achieve a goal. To be a good leader you need to know and be able to show the 6 traits of leadership. And they are motivational, trustworthy, integrity, active thinking, goal focused and resilient. I am going to be sharing 3 leadership traits that I think will help me in my leadership role. And that is to be a librarian

The first leadership trait is resilience. which is about never giving up no matter what happens.
A leader that has shown resilience is nelson Mandela because even though him trying ended him up in jail. He still kept trying and then became president. this is important to my leadership role because I need to show resilience and not give up. This will help with my leadership role because  I need to show resilience by turning up every Thursday lunchtime to do my leadership role .Another important leadership trait is goal focused

Goal focused means to stay on task to complete a goal. Someone who has used this leadership trait effectively is nelson Mandela. By always trying to accomplish his goal i need to show the goal focused leadership trait by staying on task to be a librarian. I am going to demonstrate this trait by Not talking of task or to my friends on my duty. Also  i need to show active thinking.

Active thinking means to make correct choices no matter how hard. A leader who has shown this leadership trait is nelson Mandela by thinking of ways to make people be on his side and make it that black and white people are evenly  treated. I am going  to show this trait by knowing where all the books go. This will help me in my leadership role because then i will be able to help people find their books.

To be a good librarian by  showing all the leadership traits. All these leadership traits will help me be a good librarian i can be. And show up to my role and do it effectively by being able to help people find and issue books. and help miss ward with running the library I am going to be the best librarian that i can be.

Te Reo, Term 4 2016

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…….

  • The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
  • The Marea is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
  • The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
  • There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.

  • Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi.

We have focussed on some key concepts when doing this learning.
These are listed and explained in the table below.

Concept
Definition -
give the meaning of these concepts in your own words.
Tikanga
procedure
Pōwhiri
welcoming ceremony
Tangata whenua
local people
Manuhiri
visitors
Tūrangawaewae
home
Whanaungatanga
a family
Manaakitanga
caring for others

I can describe the structure of a Short Story

Something I have learned about the structure of short stories is that they are not long and they do need to be descriptive.

After reading some short stories two things I will remember when I write my own short story are come into the problem fast and don't be to descriptive.

WALT: apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios.

WALT: apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios.

Improvisation techniques that I have used successfully are,........... always say yes.

Improvisation techniques that I would like to have more practise at……be my self.

The thing that I enjoyed most about this unit of learning was……..the games. because…….they were fun.

The thing that I found most challenging during this unit of learning was……...standing in front of every one. because………I get nervous standing in front of people .

My favourite improve game was……...ABC. because……..because it gets funny.

My next step/ something I need to work on further  in improvisation is…….confidence. because…...
I get nervous standing in front of people.

I can gather, evaluate, and synthesise information across a small range of texts

I can gather, evaluate, and synthesise information across a small range of texts

Makayla and I completed this task where we had to read some texts for and against changing the flag. Here is what we came up with

PE

WALT: Apply Striking and Fielding activities in a range of sports and activities.

My Strengths I am good at catching

The striking strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were……. Keep a eye on the ball, body sideways,
The throwing and catching strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were……. cup my hands

My Next Steps to be more accurate when throwing the ball

To improve my striking of a ball I need to…………….put more force into the ball because…………… so my hits are bigger

technology

TECHNOLOGY UNIT PLANNER Group Name: The Always Better Than You
Project Title: Move It!  Group Members: Nicholas T, Jacob Hill, Sam Carrodus
Group Roles:   Designer: Jacob Prototype Builder: Sam Google Docs Guru: Nick
DESCRIPTION OF CONTEXT:  Investigating ways of transferring energy to cause movement in vehicles
BRIEF:
Mangonel
To build a device to shoot a table tennis ball over a barrier, the height being increased after each round. You are only allowed to hold the ball before ‘firing’, you must not hold the frame of the device and neither may it be taped to the floor. Only one person from a team is permitted to hold and fire the mangonel. You will be allowed one attempt at each barrier height, so your device must be reliable and also sufficiently robust to last several rounds.

Assessment – SOLO Rubric  (see below)
Prior Knowledge needed:
How are forces used in the real world to create this type of movement? (provide examples and/or drawings from what you already know)
  • Gravity eg. When the table tennis ball is thrown up in the air, gravity will bring the tennis ball back down
  • Momentum eg. When launching the ball, it needs enough momentum to fly past the barrier
  • Air resistance eg. If it’s Head wind the air might push the table tennis ball back
  • Thrust eg. When launching the table tennis ball, it needs to be thrusted hard enough to go past the barrier

Resources required: Date completed 9.9.15

  • 4 Rubber Bands | Nicholas
  • 10 Plastic Drinking Straws | Nicholas
  • 10 Ice-block / Popsicle Sticks | Sam?
  • 2 A4 Pieces Of Card | Supplied?

  • 1 10m roll of 15mm Sticky Tape | Supplied
  • Scissors | Supplied

KEY FOCUS:      Follow the Technological Process
  1. Ask
    1. What is the goal?
    2. Why must we create this technology?
  2. Imagine
    1. What will the technology look like?
    2. What kind of research should we do?
  3. Plan
    1. How can we achieve the goal?
  4. Create
    1. Build a prototype(first design) and observe if problems occur.
  5. Improve
    1. Generate  solutions/fixes to the original prototype
    2. Evaluate how successful your design was.
